Saturday, November 17, 2012. Nearly 9AM Central Standard Time. On the couch in our living room. Abigail Waller was finally born.

Although we were almost an hour behind the intended start time (due mostly–well, entirely–to the director’s nervousness), the first day of shooting on the web series lost no luster at all, another major milestone since the show was conceived over four years prior, on August 11, 2008. Add to that the fact that the series’ production company, Cougar’s Marque Entertainment, hadn’t mounted a project since 2007, and it was a perfect recipe for rampant anxiety. However, time away from shooting and the desire to create proved to be powerful tempering forces, as we moved–albeit cautiously–toward our first take.

And the rust showed. Despite blocking off the entire weekend to shoot Episodes 0.1 and 0.2, starting late, and taking leisurely chat breaks between setups, cast and crew was able to make their day and wrap early, completing both episodes without a need for shooting on Sunday. The day was capped off by a post-shoot meal on set, where we all got to hang out and bond more.

By all accounts, we’re onto something here. Shooting happens again in two weeks, where we’ll be knocking out Episodes 0.4 and 0.6. Here’s hoping things go just as smoothly.
