No, not the show. I could never be that arrogant. But it would be nice if we did blow up…

I’m talking about the next step in getting the show made. I’ll be the first to admit, we didn’t receive the response I’d hoped for from the Houston film community with the announcement of the cast (though we hugely appreciate the few who DID show love), but that’s how it is around here if you’re not in one of the “in” cliques. Just have to shake my head and keep it moving, which for myself means acquiring a new editing computer. I’m running a trial of Premiere Pro on my laptop now and it seems to work fine – in fact, we may go ahead and use it to get started with the show – but I know I’ll need a stronger system in the long run, especially when it comes to rendering power for the final output of the episodes. I was initially going to build my own system, but after talking it over with Shaundra, I decided to buy a solid, ready-yet-basic system online, and upgrade it over time as we grow. I’ve already decided which line I’m going with, and built my spec model online – now it’s just a matter of building up the funds to make the purchase.

I’ve also been deciding which software to go with. As mentioned, I’m looking at Premiere Pro CS5, but I also downloaded a trial of Avid Studio, which I really liked. It’s got the basic features I’d use, plus some, and it’s a helluva lot cheaper than Premiere. And it features a more aesthetically-pleasing interface. Long story short, I need to do more research. Premiere’s interface may not be as attractive (it’s more “busy” than anything), but I do like a lot of the advanced features. And even though I don’t know how to use them, a part of me wants to learn how – I just don’t feel like taking too much time to do so. But we’ll see; there’s plenty of online tutorials to help me pick it up. And with the ability to subscribe to Premiere’s service for a reasonable monthly fee as opposed to dropping $800 outright, one of my biggest sticking points with the software has been nullified.

Decisions, decisions…
